A barbell is a type of jewelry that consists of a straight metal rod with a ball or other decorative end on each side. The barbell is commonly used in various piercings, including tongue, eyebrow, industrial (ear cartilage), and nipple piercings, among others. The straight bar design allows for easy insertion and removal of the jewelry, while the ball ends secure the jewelry in place once inserted into the piercing.
A curved barbell is a type of body jewelry that features a curved metal rod with a ball or decorative end on each side. It is commonly used in piercings such as the eyebrow, navel, and rook, among others. The curved shape of the barbell allows for a comfortable fit in certain piercings and can provide a unique aesthetic appeal.
A flatback, or also known as a labret post, is a type of body jewelry that consists of a flat disc or disk on one end and a decorative or removable end on the other. It is commonly used in piercings where comfort and low profile are important, such as in lip, earlobe, or certain cartilage piercings. The flat disc end sits flush against the skin, reducing irritation and providing a more comfortable fit compared to traditional ball-end jewelry.
A hinge hoop, also known as a hinged segment ring, is a type of body jewelry designed with a hinged closure mechanism. This allows for easy insertion and removal of the jewelry without having to bend or twist the hoop. This design makes it convenient for changing or adjusting the jewelry, particularly in piercings where traditional hoops may be difficult to manipulate.
A horseshoe, on the other hand, is a type of body jewelry that is shaped like a U or a semi-circle, resembling the shape of a horseshoe with two balls or decorative ends on each side. This allows it to be inserted into piercings such as the septum, eyebrow, or nipple. Horseshoe jewelry can be flipped up or down depending on preference and is often used in piercings where a circular shape is desired.
A dangle refers to a type of jewelry that features a decorative charm or ornament hanging from the main body of the jewelry. Dangles are typically attached to the bottom of a barbell, hoop, or other type of body jewelry, adding a touch of flair and movement to the piercing. They come in various designs, including gemstones, beads, feathers, or themed charms, and can be used in various piercings such as the navel, earlobe, or nipple.
Chains can vary in size, shape, and material, and they create a continuous and flexible piece of jewelry. Chains links are often used in body piercings to connect multiple piercings or to add a decorative and dynamic element to the jewelry.
To measure the length of a chain for body piercing, wrap a flexible measuring tape or string around the desired area, following the path you want the chain to take. Measure the length from one end to the marked point, and consider adding a bit of extra length for comfort and movement
In body piercing, “ends” refer to the decorative or functional pieces that attach to the main body of the jewelry, such as barbells, curved barbells, flatbacks, or horseshoes. These ends come in various shapes, sizes, and designs, including gemstones, beads, spikes, or themed charms, allowing for customization and personalization of the piercing. Ends can be easily swapped or changed to create different looks or accommodate different occasions, making them a versatile option
Threaded ends in body piercing refer to jewelry components that have threading (screw-like grooves) on the post and inside the decorative or functional end. This threading allows the end to be securely screwed onto the post, holding the jewelry together.
Unlike threaded jewelry, which screws onto the post, a threadless end uses pressure to secure the two pieces together. To assemble a threadless end, the post of the jewelry is inserted into a corresponding hole in the decorative end, creating a snug fit. The tension between the post and the end holds them together securely, eliminating the need for threading. This design allows for quick and easy customization of body jewelry, as the ends can be easily swapped out to change the look or style of the piercing. Threadless ends are popular for their versatility, ease of use, and ability to create a seamless and polished appearance in body piercings.
