It is important to know what you are putting in your body, so if it reacts adversely we can try other metals. It’s best to avoid metals with high nickel content. If you start to notice your skin starting to turn green you may want to switch your jewelry as that is a sign of sensitivity to nickel.
Here is a break down of metals from the Association of Professional Piercers.
This type of metal is made of a variety of alloys. Many of them are used for body jewelry, but only a few specific grades are proven biocompatible: Ex. steel that is ASTM F-138 compliant or ISO 5832-1 compliant; ISO 10993-(6,10, or 11) compliant; or (EEC [European] Nickel Directive compliant.
Is a heavy precious metal that is extremely inert and excellent for wear in body piercings. However, body jewelry in this material is rare and very expensive due to the high cost of the material and greater difficulty in manufacturing jewelry from it.
Fused quartz glass, lead-free borosilicate, and lead-free soda-lime glass are inert and considered safe for initial piercings. They can also be sterilized in an autoclave.
Is appropriate for initial piercings if it is 14k or higher, nickel- and cadmium-free, and alloyed for biocompatibility. Gold higher than 18k is too soft for body jewelry because it can easily be scratched or nicked. Gold plated, gold-filled, or gold overlay/vermeil jewelry is not acceptable for fresh piercings. All of these involve coating a base metal with a layer of gold. The gold surface (which is very thin—measured in millionths of an inch) can wear or chip off.
A lightweight metal that is ideal for people with concerns about nickel sensitivity. This material can be anodized to create jewelry of different colors without affecting the safety. Look for implant certified titanium (Ti6Al4V ELI) that is ASTM F-136 compliant, ASTM F1295, ISO 5832-3 compliant, or commercially pure titanium that is ASTM F-67 compliant.
Has been widely used by piercers with good results for many years. It is very similar to titanium, but does not have an implant-grade designation. Like titanium, niobium can be anodized to produce different colors. (And, unlike titanium, it can be anodized black.) Anodized niobium and titanium may fade due to body chemistry or when worn in friction-prone areas, but this is not harmful.
What should NOT be applied to your piercings and why
Kills the good and bad bacteria, for faster healing we need the good bacteria to help fight infections.
Can suffocate the piercing and cause longer healing and or irritation.
Fragrances chemicals can irritate or dry out the piercing
Average healing time, downsizing & jewelry changes
It typically heals within 6-9 months.
It can take 6 months to 1 ½ years.
Jewelry Changes should wait until at least 16 weeks unless you are downsizing to help the healing process, which typically occurs around weeks 6-8. Navel Piercings must wait 6 months before changing.
Available apprentice appointments will be able to be found while booking, labeled as “APPRENTICE PIERCING:…” All apprentice services are 50% off the original cost. You must be over the age of 18 to receive an apprentice service.
Apprentice appointments are used for educational purposes, which means it may take longer than a standard piercing with us, as we allow for both you and the apprentice themselves all the questions they deem necessary for their training.
All prices include the base metal jewelry (titanium or niobium; both are Hypoallergenic and biocompatible) and one downsizing/upsizing appointment.

For sanitation reasons we will not perform any piercings with a gun. Gun Piercing Machines are often made of a type of resin or acrylic that will not allow them to be sterilized in an autoclave. Gun piercings also create more trauma to the tissue creating longer healing time, with less accuracy. Hollow Needles provide a clean surgical cut which lessens the pain, and doesn’t generate much-if any sound during the procedure. They give the piercer a more precise view to ensure the straightness of your piercing for better healing.
Unless you are getting a pair of earlobe piercings, we will not pierce both ears. Cartilage can take time to heal and we want to make sure you have a comfortable ear to sleep on. Sleeping on healing piercings can cause your piercing to start healing at a slight angle due to pressure. If you must absolutely sleep on the side you are getting pierced we recommend using a travel pillow or a piercing pillow.
No. Waiting until the baby is born is the safest option for you and your baby; not only are you at a higher risk of infection but the healing process will be prolonged due to your body focusing on the growth of your child.
Piercings are typically asked to be removed for surgery, therefore we don’t recommend you get a piercing before surgery. Surgery may also cause prolonged healing periods because our body is focused on a much larger problem.
The youngest we will provide a service for is 6 years old.
Decorative Jewelry orders are placed on the 15th or every month, and can take up to 6 weeks to come in.
You have two options:
1.) The jewelry can be sent to the studio and you will get a notification when it is in, and we can make an appointment for us to help you change your jewelry or for you to simply
pick it up
.
If you choose to simply pick it up you will get a form to fill out which will give you the option of an alternate pick up person. Please be sure to bring your ID, as most decorative pieces are 14k Gold and we will not release your order to the pick up person without it.
2.) We can ship the jewelry to your house.
If you choose to have it sent to your house and order flat backs you will be asked what gauge and will be sent 3 different post lengths in that gauge size.
All flat backs come with implant grade titanium backings. 14K Gold backings can be purchased separately for $60 during your online checkout.
